In 2018, 50 legs helped 114 amputees with travel, lodging and funding to get them prosthetics. The purpose of 50 Legs is to provide amputees with the necessary care and prosthetics that they could not otherwise afford and to help them live a happier and healthier life. Our values, coupled with our desire to give back, have a positive impact on the lives of amputees by removing hopelessness and providing necessary care and prosthetic devices. 50 Legs vows to assist in providing the needed care and/or prosthetic devices to a person who loses a leg or foot to allow them to live an active and productive life.

In 2011 Steve Chamberland founded 50 Legs, a nonprofit charity that provides prosthetic legs to amputees. 50 legs has assisted hundreds amputees who have experienced the tragedy of limb loss. We have helped those who have suffered amputation from cancer, shark attacks, terrorist attacks, lawn mower accidents, and many other unfortunate accidents. We have also had the privilege of helping many veterans. Amputation is a hard adjustment, but we have found that amputees want to have the ability to live a normal life again and contribute to the community. At 50 legs our mission is to provide amputees with the necessary care and prosthetics that they could not otherwise afford and to help them live a happier and healthier life. Those who have been recipients of 50 legs are independent and thriving members of their communities. 50 legs wants to continue helping amputees so they too may regain the independence they once had.
We hope you join us on the 41st Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10k, join Team 50 Legs and lets go!
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10k road race is held in New Orleans on the Saturday before Easter Sunday each year. The Classic is locally produced by a not-for-profit 5013c entity, the Crescent City Fitness Foundation, and is a great way to get in shape, while having fun! Both runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to participate in the race.
The Classic is both physically challenging and a great New Orleans tradition! The 10-kilometer course (6.2 miles) begins in Downtown New Orleans in front of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, runs participants through the French Quarter, and then all the way up beautiful Esplanade Avenue to New Orleans City Park.
During Easter weekend, the events surrounding the Crescent City Classic promise a jam-packed weekend. We host a two-day Health & Fitness Expo, which is free and open to the public, as well as throw one of the best post-race parties in road racing hosted by Michelob Ultra, and complete with live music and local creole cuisine!
