50 Legs Recipient Stories

Recipient Stories

Every 50 Legs recipient’s story is different. A child who lost a leg to cancer. An adult who was born without a leg. A member of the military who lost both legs in combat. So many who’ve lost legs in car accidents or other traumas. We’re here to change the narrative. To give those stories happy new beginnings.

“After visiting other prosthetic clinics, POA is amazing. To have access to on site manufacturing and adjustments has a value that cannot be measured. 50 Legs enabled Zykell to acquire the very best technology available and we’re forever grateful.”

“Most six year olds long to go to Orlando to visit Disney. Not Jules. She loves Orlando because that is where she gets to see Rick, Uncle Steve, Mr. Stan, Ms. Karen and the entire POA crew while they make her brand new legs. I love that Ricky.”

“After losing her leg to cancer at the age of five, she was then fitted for a prosthetic leg and could walk. THEN we were told about an amazing facility called POA and a charity called 50 Legs. To say they changed our lives for the better is an extreme understatement. Kacey’s confidence and quality of life has been enhanced by both establishments and we are forever grateful.”

“Meeting POA and the 50 Legs family gave us great hope because we know Micaela could have an incredible quality of life and could develop like any other child of her age. She has been a recipient since she was two years old, she’s now eleven. 50 Legs and POA are such a blessing to our family.”

“Livy was diagnosed with stage III cancer at the age of thirteen months. At seventeen months she walked into her amputation surgery and didn’t walk for a year on the prosthetic legs that were made for us in our home state. After suffering great frustration I called Steve on Thursday and he said seven words that changed Livy’s life. “Can you get down here on Sunday?” Livy’s life changed forever, and we are forever grateful.”

“50 Legs and POA have drastically changed my life. Becoming an amputee I had no idea what to expect. They have given me the ability to be as active as I want. I’ve been able to continue to follow my passion of snowboarding, being in the gym and living my best life. Not only have these people given me my life back, they have become family. I don’t want to know what my life would be without 50 Legs and POA.”

“The outstanding care I have received over the years has allowed me to accomplish tasks I previously was unable to do. Not only am I surrounded by fellow amputees, also the staff truly cares about me. POA’s skill and talent at executing Steve’s vision is unparalleled. A massive thanks to everyone who has helped me get back up on my feet.”

“Before 50 Legs sent me to POA for a new socket, you could not convince me I was going to be okay. Many amputees I met before coming to POA informed me that they had to go through many prosthetic facilities before finding a good one, that stuck with me. Upon standing on my very first test socket from POA I knew my life was going to change for the better. I thank the lord daily for 50 Legs, POA, and every patient I met at POA. They gave me the strength I needed to tackle this major change in my life.”

“I was born with Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency, which caused my parents to make an agonizing decision to amputate my right leg at the age of eighteen months old. The ongoing financial burden of an artificial leg is huge, but thanks to 50 Legs that burden has been lifted and I have resumed my active lifestyle. My gratitude to 50 Legs and POA cannot be measured.”

“50 Legs has been gracious enough to provide me with new walking legs (which I use every day on my college campus to walk at least five miles to and from classes), running blades and stubbies (for rock climbing). I am so grateful to 50 Legs for helping me live my life to the fullest extent!”

“There are many challenges after becoming an amputee. I learned quickly that the most difficult are mental, physical and financial. 50 Legs and POA invited me into their family and it changed my life. I am now able to work, run and enjoy life again. The partnership of 50Legs and POA definitely helps with not only the high cost of prosthetics, but they do it with compassion and love and I am so blessed to receive this gift.”
